WMMS 2010 Show Report
This years Show was held on Sunday 21st March. For the second year running we were treated to a fine spring day.
This year saw an increase in all areas. More visitors, traders and games. The standard of display and participation game was again very high. Judging is always difficult, and this year was no exception.
Photos of all the winners appear elsewhere on the site.
First, in the Best Display Game category, were Shrewsbury for their Viking raid game. As always with Shrewsbury the attention to detail was excellent, and well executed.
Second were Leamington for their Elizabethan take on The Eagle Has Landed.
OK I know it sounds a bit bizarre, but it worked really well, and looked superb.
Third were Birmingham with a well worked Dark Ages game.
Best Wargame Terrain again went to Shrewsbury, although they were run close by Martin Hackett and his scratch built Battle of Falkirk 1746.
Best Painted Army went to Leamington for their fine Elizabethan figures.
The Participation Game category proved difficult with a number of games proving very popular throughout the day. We sent our play testers out to sample what was on offer. The unanimous decision went to Huntingdon’s Catch The Pigeon aerial game. It brought a smile to everyone who saw it. A highly original concept game.
Best Military Modelling Display went to UMS.
Best Historical Display went to Birches Reg’t of the Sealed Knot.
Attendance was again up for the fifth year running, with a total attendance of over 1000. Despite the usual rush in the morning many people stayed all day. There was a real buzz about the hall well into the afternoon. Thank you to the many people went of their way to say how much they had enjoyed the day.
So all in all a good show. A big thank you to everyone who gave up their time to participate, and to the traders for their continued support during these hard times.
Next year we hope to have a large WWII display in the main hall with several vehicles. So hopefully with your support we can continue to fly the flag for wargaming in the West Midlands. See you next year for the 35th WMMS on Sunday 13th March 2011.
