WMMS 2011 Show Report

This years Show was held on Sunday 13th March. After a soggy start to the morning we were eventually treated to a fine spring day.

This year saw us consolidate on the success of last years event. Despite the current economic uncertainty 48 traders were able to attend. More importantly numbers through the door were again up on the previous year. The display, and participation games and modelling clubs, were again of the very highest quality. Judging is always difficult, and this year was no exception.

Photos of all the winners will appear elsewhere on the site soon.

First, in the Best Display Game category and Best Painted Army, were Leamington for their French/Indian Wars game. A well presented game with the right ‘feel’ for the period.

Second were Earlswood for their Wars of the Roses battle of Towton. Earlswood also took the prize for Best Terrain. You could almost feel the cold of the battlefield. Executed very well.

Third were Phoenix with an eye catching Napoleonic Peninsular game.

The Participation Game category proved difficult with a number of games proving very popular throughout the day. We sent our play testers out to sample what was on offer. Just sneaking ahead of the ever popular Star Wars game, was Marc William and his Wild West Coupstick game.

Best Military Modelling Display went to IPMS Birmingham. Particular mention should go to the fine selection of naval vessels on display.

Best Historical Display went to John Vaughan and his large WW2 static display.

Attendance was again up for the sixth year running, with a total attendance of around 1100. The early morning rush does seem to be getting more frantic. Quite a few people were made to wait before being allowed entrance. By all means arrive early, but don’t complain that you can’t get in at 9.00am because we are still setting up.

Thank you to the many people who went of their way to say how much they had enjoyed the day.

So all in all another good show. A big thank you to everyone who gave up their time to participate, and to the traders for their continued support during these hard times.

So hopefully with your support we can continue to fly the flag for wargaming in the West Midlands. See you next year for the 36th WMMS on Sunday 11th March 2012.
